NORTHRIDGE, CA---
CSUN Women's Soccer (10-7-1, 3-2-1 Big West) concludes its regular season with a pair of contests that will ultimately decide its postseason aspirations. The Matadors travel to UC Riverside (10-8, 4-3 Big West) to face the Highlanders on Thursday night at 7 p.m. and host UC Santa Barbara (12-4-1, 5-1 Big West) on Sunday at 2 p.m. for Senior Day at Matador Soccer Field. Live stats will be available for both matches and Sunday's game will be streamed live on the CSUN Sports Network through Big West.TV.
Â
The Matadors are currently in the fifth spot in the Big West Conference standings and two points behind fourth-place UC Riverside. CSUN needs to finish in the top four spots to punch its ticket for the Big West Conference Tournament and would clinch a postseason spot with a win on Thursday night against UC Riverside. Should the Matadors and Highlanders draw, CSUN would need a victory against UC Santa Barbara on Sunday to secure a spot in the tournament. However, if CSUN falls at UC Riverside, the Matadors would be eliminated from tournament contention.
Â
Last week, CSUN suffered a pair of 1-0 setbacks to Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton respectively. The 49ers broke a scoreless tie last Thursday at CSUN with a goal in the 80th minute while the Titans found the netting in the 73rd minute to gain the lead on Sunday. The Matadors had chances at the goal in both matches including five shots on goal against LBSU and six against Fullerton but could not break though with a score in either contest.
Â
The regular season finale on Sunday will mark the final home match for four Matador seniors: Cynthia Tafoya, Tabatha Dickson, Kendall Moskal and Lyndsey Preston. The student-athletes will be honored for their respective contributions to the CSUN Women's Soccer program in a special ceremony prior to kickoff.
Â
All-time against UC Riverside, the Matadors hold an 8-6 record and have won four of the last six meetings including a 1-0 win at home last season. On the road all-time, CSUN is 3-4 against UCR and has dropped its last two matches.
Â
The Matadors are 7-15 in the head-to-head series with UC Santa Barbara but have earned victories in three of the last four games including a 1-0 win last season. Facing UCSB at home, CSUN is 4-7 and lost its last meeting at Matador Soccer Field, 1-0, in October 2013.
