Jeremy Degraffenreidt Scores First Goal as a Matador
DAVIS, Calif. --- The CSUN men's soccer team (4-5-2, 0-2-1 Big West) played to a 1-1 draw with UC Davis Thursday in a Big West Conference match at Aggie Soccer Field. Jeremy Degraffenreidt scored his first career goal as a Matador and Adam Hobbs made 10 saves in net for the second-straight match as CSUN picked up a crucial point in the Big West standings.
The Matadors and Aggies played a tight contest Thursday and for the second-straight year, the match ended in a draw. UC Davis held a 22-11 advantage in shots for the contest and put 11 of those attempts on net.
Fortunately for CSUN, Hobbs continued his stellar play by matching his season high for saves. All 10 stops came after halftime and he made four saves in the first overtime period alone. With the performance, Hobbs raised his season save percentage to .797 and he now has 51 saves on the season.
Degraffenreidt struck in the 37th minute for his first goal in a CSUN kit. Streaking down the right side of the pitch, Degraffenreidt took a pass from Nicolas Camacho and beat the UCD goalkeeper with a low shot to the near post. Degraffenreidt now has a team-high three points in three Big West games and the assist was Camacho's first of the season.
Unfortunately, UC Davis found an equalizer in the 53rd minute to level the contest. CSUN had some looks at a go-ahead goal, but Carlos Gonzalez pushed a header wide and David Turcios was stopped on a breakaway in the Matadors' best chances.
Both teams finished with seven fouls and Dean Wright saw the yellow card in the 100th minute. UCD held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks and the Matadors were called offsides six times over the 110 minutes.
By earning a point via the draw, CSUN has moved into a tie for third in the Big West South Division standings with UC Irvine. The Anteaters lost 3-2 in overtime at Sacramento State on Thursday.
The Matadors return to action on Saturday, Oct. 10 with a 4 p.m. match at Sacramento State.
