
Olympian and Former Matador Alice Brown Celebrated during Black History Month

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Alice Brown, a retired American sprinter, is highlighted this week in honor of CSUN Athletics' Black History Month celebration. She was inducted into the Matador Hall of Fame in 1986 in recognition of her storied track career.
Brown won the silver medal in the 100 meters at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles as well as the Olympic gold medal as a member of the 4 x 100 meter relay team. She also won gold for her relay leg at the 1987 World Championships.
During her collegiate career, she won the 100 meters in 1980 and was a member of the 1979 and 1980 Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) national championship teams.
Brown's legacy as a CSUN student-athlete and American sprinter includes being recognized as a record-holder and the only woman to win a collegiate championship, the Athletics Congress championship and the Olympic Trials in the same year.Â
