FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.---Senior thrower Summer Mosley qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time in her career as CSUN Track & Field completed its stay at the NCAA West First Round on Saturday at John McDonnell Field.Â
Mosley became the first CSUN women's athlete to punch a ticket to nationals since 2019 and the first to qualify in women's discus since Monique Griffiths in 2017. CSUN also was represented at the NCAA West First Round by the senior trio of Katherine Shipp-Davis (discus), Amani Britton (discus) and Camryn Harris (triple jump) on Saturday.Â
Entering the competition as the No. 1 seed in the west region, Mosley would only need her first throw to qualify for nationals as she recorded a toss of 56.52m (185-5). That mark placed her fifth overall in the 48-athlete field. Prior to Saturday, Mosley had finished 38th in the discus at last year's regional while her best career finish in the event was 33rd at the 2022 regional while competing for USC.Â
The 2026 season was a banner year for Mosley who broke the Matadors' women's discus record, which had stood for 28 seasons, in April before surpassing her own record twice more during the season. Her new school record of 59.60m (195-6) would be set at the Big West Championships when she claimed her second straight discus title.Â
Shipp-Davis was one-of-three Matadors to make their debut at the west regional as the senior finished one spot away from qualifying for nationals. Her third and final throw of her series went the furthest at 54.16m (177-8), placing her 13th overall. Shipp-Davis would fall just 0.25m short of the 12th and final NCAA qualifying spot.Â
Shipp-Davis' regional appearance closes a career season, which saw her finish second overall at the Big West Championships in the discus. Her toss of 55.28m (181-4) at the conference championships set a new personal best and put her fourth on the all-time top-10 list in school history.Â
Britton was the third and final Matador representative in the discus on Saturday. The senior produced a throw of 46.66m (153-1) on her second attempt to finish 43rd in the field. Along with her two teammates, Britton had a career season in 2026 as she finished fifth in the discus at the Big West Championships with a PR of 51.04m (167-5).Â
Harris closed the day for CSUN in the triple jump where she posted her best mark on her third attempt at 12.39m (40-7.75). She finished 44th overall in the competitive 48-athlete field. Harris also made her regional debut this weekend after putting forth a career season in the triple jump. At the Big West Championships, Harris set a new PR 12.86m (42-2.25) to take third place. That personal-best mark put her fifth all-time in school history.Â
ACCORDING TO COACH JUSTIN JOHNSON
"The women were firing on all cylinders today. Summer punched her ticket to Eugene on her first throw. Kat had her second-best throw of her career which landed her one spot out of nationals. I was happy with how Amani and Camryn performed today. They proved that they belong here.Â
"Overall, the women did a phenomenal job representing this season."
