NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Sunday's final round of the Bandon Dunes Championship was cancelled due to weather leaving the CSUN men's golf team with a 16th-place finish.
The Matadors were 16th after an opening round 303 and remained 16th after Saturday's round of 311. CSUN had hoped to make some headway up the leaderboard on Sunday but the final round was canceled due to heavy winds and rain.
"Obviously the team and I are equally disappointed in our play," said Matador head coach Jim Bracken. "We're going to work on some different things, such as short game and putting, over the next couple of weeks before our next tournament. I've said all along we're a good team if we can put it together, now we've just got to put it together on the course."
CSUN did not have a player finish in the top-30 for the third consecutive tournament as senior Michael O'Connor tied for 33rd at four over-par 148. O'Connor was one-over after Friday's round of 73 but slipped to three-over 75 on Saturday.
Tim Snyder opened with a six-over 78 but rebounded with a three-over 75 on Saturday to finish tied for 62nd at nine-over 163. Steven Molumby was one shot behind Snyder as the senior tied for 68th at 10-over 164 following rounds of 75-79.
Elsewhere, Aaron Grimes finished in a tie for 85th at 15-over 159 after posting scores of 77-82 and Joey Varnam finished 89th at 21-over 165 following rounds of 79-86.
Duke and Missouri tied for the team championship as each squad finished at one-under 575 which was two strokes better than Saint Mary's (577). Cody Blick of San Jose State was the individual medalist after posting a two round score of six-under 138.
CSUN has two tournaments remaining this spring before the Big West championship. The Matadors will tee it up again Apr. 6 at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at Talking Stick G.C. in Scottsdale, Ariz.
