NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - After an opening round 294, the CSUN men's golf team fired a 285 in the second round to move up to 13th Monday at Wyoming's Cowboy Classic at Whirlwind G.C. in Chandler, Ariz.
The Matadors' second round 285 was their season low for 18 holes while the two round 579 is just five shots off their season low for 36 holes.
"Compared to how we've played the last couple of tournaments, it was better," said CSUN head coach Jim Bracken. "I was glad to see us regroup in the second round but we're still missing that fourth score to get us over the hump."
Senior Steven Molumby matched CSUN's low round for the season in round two with a five-under 67 which moved him into the top 20 heading into the final round. Molumby opened with a two-over 74 and combined with a 67 in the second round is tied for 16th at three-under 141.
Fellow senior Michael O'Connor was tied for ninth after an opening round of three-under 69 before a second round 75 dropped him into a tie for 46th at even-par 144.
Sam Engel, playing in his first tournament since February, is tied for 67th at three-over 147 following rounds of 75-72. Dodge Ward opened with 78 before a second round of one-under 71 left him tied for 80th at five-over 149. Tim Snyder rounded out the Matador lineup as the junior is tied for 88th at eight-over 152 following rounds of 76-76.
CSUN also sent a pair of individuals as Conrad White is tied for 84th at seven-over 151 after rounds of 72-79 while Aden Louez is tied for 88th at eight-over 152 after posting scores of 76-76.
