NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team fell 4-1 to the University of Hawai'i Sunday afternoon in a Big West Conference match. On her Senior Day, Criss Rodriguez won in both singles and doubles for the Matadors. CSUN will face Hawai'i this Friday in a Big West Tournament Quarterfinal.
CSUN and Hawai'i met in the Matadors' regular season finale Sunday afternoon on a hot day in the San Fernando Valley. The Rainbow Wahine jumped ahead 1-0 early after winning two of the three doubles matches.Â
Rodriguez and junior Jessica Warren won their No. 3 doubles draw 8-2 to improve to 11-4 on the season and 4-3 against Big West opponents.Â
In singles, Rodriguez won in straight sets in the third draw, 6-4 and 6-3, to improve to 15-3 overall and 6-2 against Big West opponents.Â
Unfortunately, the Rainbow Wahine won the other three singles matches to clinch the contest. Two singles matches went unfinished as they did not impact the match's final result.Â
"We almost came all the way back today, but fell behind losing a close doubles point and the first set on five of the six courts," CSUN head coach Gary Victor said. "We showed a lot of heart and won the second set on four courts in fighting back. Criss had a great Senior Day winning in both doubles and singles."Â
CSUN finishes the season at 14-5 overall and 5-3 in the Big West. The Matadors finished tied for fourth in the Big West and will meet the Rainbow Wahine Friday in a Big West Tournament Quarterfinal match in Indian Wells, Calif. at 11 a.m.
