Four CSUN Tennis Players Named to Academic All-District Team

NORTHRIDGE, Calif -- CSUN Women's Tennis' Angela Ho, Emma Moratalla Sanz, Madison Shepperson and Yuliia Zhytelna were named to the 2024 Academic All-District Team on May 13, as announced by College Sports Communicators (CSC).Â

The CSC academic awards program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The academic qualifications for the distinction are a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average. Nominated student-athletes must have participated in at least 70 percent of the team's games this season and should be a starter or important reserve on the field of play.

Originally from San Francisco, Ho completed her third season with the Matadors in 2025, picking up an All-Big West Honorable Mention in the process. She posted a team best 14-5 in singles record with a 10-2 record on court No. 3. Ho had two primary doubles partners, going 5-1 with Zhytelna and 5-4 with Victoria Santibanez Luna. She was named to the 2023 Academic All-District team as well. Ho is currently majoring in Computer Science at CSUN.

Hailing from Valencia, Spain, Moratalla Sanz recently completed her third season with the Matadors as well in 2025. She went 10-8 in singles play but shined best on Court No. 5 where she went 7-3. Moratalla Sanz primarily partnered with Elena Goodman in doubles. The duo went 8-6 and were 3-1 on Court No. 2. The junior out of IES Moxient HS is currently majoring in Business Analytics.Â

Shepperson, the redshirt freshman from Mira Loma, Calif., is coming off a season where she earned honorable mention honors from the Big West for her contributions in doubles play with Zhytelna. In doubles, her and Zhytelna sported the best record on the team going 10-2, including kicking off the season by winning their first nine contests. In singles play, Shepperson went 6-4 overall in her first season. She is currently majoring in Psychology.Â

Zhytelna, the senior out of Kiev, Ukraine, is named to the Academic All-District Team for the second year in a row. Zhytelna shined in doubles with Shepperson, as the tandem won their first six doubles matches in Big West play. Zhytelna also went 5-1 with Ho, and 1-0 with Annette Robertson. Playing at No.1 singles, the senior went 9-12 on the year. A double major at CSUN in Broadcast Journalism and Urban Studies and Planning, Zhytelna was previously an Academic All-Big West honoree, ITA Scholar-Athlete and ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship winner for the South Region.
