Emily Cole Leads the Matadors with 14 Points
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's basketball (2-15, 0-3 Big West) lost 65-49 to UC Santa Barbara Saturday afternoon in a Big West Conference contest at The Matadome. Junior Emily Cole led the Matadors with 14 points, her second game this season in double-figures, but the Gauchos used an extended run in the first half to put the game out of reach.Â
CSUN led 6-2 early in the contest, but that advantage would be short-lived. Sophomore Katelin King hit a 3-pointer early in the first period to tie the game at 9-9. From there, the Gauchos unfurled a 22-4 run to end the period and take a 31-13 advantage after 10 minutes action.Â
In the second period, UCSB stretched the lead to 38-15 which equated to a 29-6 run from King's 3-pointer. CSUN head coach Jason Flowers had to call a timeout at 5:46 of the second period to slow things down and CSUN got several baskets from Channon Fluker to draw within 45-27 at halftime.Â
In the third period, CSUN drew to within 54-42 after a put-back from Tessa Boagni and a 3-pointer from Cole. However, that would be as close as the Matadors would get the rest of the game. UCSB out-scored CSUN 10-7 in the fourth period.Â
Cole finished 5-of-9 from the field and 2-of-6 from 3-point range in 35 minutes of action. She added five rebounds and two assists in defeat.Â

Boagni finished with nine points and two rebounds in 23 minutes. She tied a career high with three blocks. Cheyenne Allen had a career-high 11 rebounds to go with four points and two assists in 34 minutes of action.Â
CSUN struggled with turnovers throughout the game, coughing it up 20 times. That resulted in 16 points for the Gauchos and UCSB also got 28 Â points from its bench and had 10 fast-break points.Â
Behind Fluker and Allen's efforts, CSUN out-rebounded UCSB 41-30. However, the Matadors shot 35.8 percent from the field compared to 45.8 percent for the Gauchos.Â
