Final Round 297 Moves CSUN up to Eighth in Palm Desert

After sitting ninth after rounds of 317-311 on Saturday, Gina Umeck's squad posted its low round of the season Sunday to move into eighth place. The final round 297 was CSUN's best 18 hole score since also carding a 297 at Sacramento State in March of 2015.
Cake Phuchanbanchob led the charge by firing a two-under 70 to move up 16 slots on the leadeboard. Phuchanbanchob played virtually error-free on Sunday with three birdies, 14 pars and a single bogey as she finished the tournament 21st at 12-over 228.
Freshman Alice Duan, who was CSUN's low scorer through 36 holes, carded a final round three-over 75 to narrowly miss her first collegiate top 20 finish. Duan's second consecutive round of 75 left her at 13-over 229 for the tournament, good for 24th place.
Shenna DeLeion and Ysabel Tran also had their best round of the tournament Sunday. DeLeon followed up Saturday rounds of 79-78 with a final round four-over 76 to finish 33rd at 17-over 233. Tran also closed with a four-over 76 after posting rounds of 80-79 on Saturday to finish 36th at 19-over 235.
Freshman Brianna Steger completed her first collegiate tournament with rounds of 81-82-79 to finish in a tie for 53rd at 26-over 242.
Santa Clara captured the team titlw with a three-round score of 882 while Annie Freman of the Broncos led from start to finish to claim medalist honors at six-under 210.
