CSUN Drops Close Decision at UC Davis

Freshman Channon Fluker Leads Matadors with 19 Points
DAVIS, Calif. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (6-23, 4-10 Big West) lost 57-50 at UC Davis (16-11, 9-5 BWC) Saturday afternoon in a Big West Conference contest at The Pavilion. Channon Fluker led CSUN with 19 points and nine rebounds, but the Matadors could not hold on to a fourth-period lead and lost to the Aggies.Â
Leading 40-35 at the end of the third quarter, CSUN could not sustain the momentum in the fourth period. The Aggies opened the frame on a 15-2 run to take a 50-42 lead midway through the period. The Matadors would get back to within six, but could not get closer as the Aggies completed the comeback on their Senior Day.Â
Fluker led the way for CSUN, finishing 9-of-15 from the field and 1-of-3 from the free throw line. Four of her nine boards came on the offensive glass and she had a block and two steals in 26 minutes of action.Â
Jasmine Johnson was the second Matador to finish in double figures, scoring 10 points in her final appearance in Davis. She was 3-of-6 from the field and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe while grabbing four rebounds in 35 minutes.Â
Emily Cole was third on the team with nine points courtesy of three 3-pointers. She added three rebounds and three assists in 37 minutes of work.Â
CSUN enjoyed a stellar start to the game, building an 11-3 lead moments into the contest. The Matadors led 14-9 at the end of the first period and held a 28-25 advantage at halftime. Fluker had 10 points at the break for CSUN.
The Matadors continued to lead through the third period, out-scoring the Aggies 12-10 in the frame. However, the fourth period proved to be the Matadors' downfall as they were out-scored 22-10 over the final 10 minutes of the game.Â
UC Davis won the rebounding battle, 40-32, and forced 16 CSUN turnovers. The Aggies got 13 points off those turnovers and added 12 fast-break points in the win.Â
CSUN returns to action on Thursday, Mar. 3 with a 7 p.m. game at Cal State Fullerton in Titan Gym.Â
