No. 13 UCLA Pulls Away Late in 6-0 Victory over CSUN

Taylor Glover Finishes with Two Hits, Her 19th Multi-Hit Game in 2016
LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- The CSUN softball team (23-18) lost 6-0 at No. 13 UCLA (26-11-1) Wednesday evening in a non-conference game at Easton Stadium on the Bruins' campus. Taylor Glover had two hits and Daphne Pofek was strong early in the circle for the Matadors, but UCLA scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away for the victory.Â
Pofek (10-5) was tough in the circle Wednesday night for the majority of her start. She had six strikeouts through five innings of work and got some nice defensive plays from her defense.
In the first, she ended the inning with a strikeout swinging and Karlie Habitz erased a one-out walk by picking off the runner at first. Mackenzie Babbitt and Glover both had diving catches in the outfield and Pofek held UCLA to one hit and a sacrifice fly through the first five innings.Â
Unfortunately, UCLA rallied in the sixth to chase her from the circle. The Bruins hit three RBI doubles in the frame to score five runs and Taylor Troost finished the inning in the circle for the Matadors.Â
At the plate, Glover had two singles and recorded her team-leading 19th multi-hit game of the season. She ended the year batting an even .500 (56-112) in 35 non-conference games and is batting .485 headed into a weekend series with UC Santa Barbara.Â
Savannah Horvath and Babbitt had the other two hits for CSUN. The Matadors' best chance came in the top of the fourth when Horvath and Glover roped consecutive singles to start the inning. However, Horvath was caught stealing at third and Glover was stranded at second to end the threat.Â
The Matadors return to action on Saturday, April 16 with a Big West Conference doubleheader against UC Santa Barbara. The teams will also play a single game on Sunday, April 17 with both days slated for a 1 p.m. start.Â
On Saturday, the Matadors will be collecting clothing donations for Good Shepherd Shelter. Fans donating new or gently worn apparel will receive complimentary admission to the game.Â
On Sunday, there will be $1 admission for all fans wearing pink. The first 50 fans with a game ticket receive will receive a free #MatadorsCare Pink Ribbon t-shirt and the first 200 fans with a game ticket will receive a free Cup of Menchie's of Granada Hills Frozen Yogurt.
