Sophomore Elisa Elhadj Wins Matador Debut at No.1 Singles

LOS ANGELES --- Sophomore Elisa Elhadj had a strong start to her CSUN career with a three-set victory in the top singles draw and junior Kiryang Kim won her No. 4 singles contest, but the CSUN women's tennis team (0-1) lost 5-2 at Loyola Marymount Thursday afternoon.
Originally from Switzerland, Elhad won her No.1 singles match 7-6 (3-0), 0-6 and 10-8 against the Lions' Jessica Perez. Kim continued a three-match winning streak to end the 2016 season with a 6-1, 4-6 and 11-9 victory in the fourth draw. Going back to her sophomore year, Kim has won nine of her past 11 singles matches.Â
CSUN suffered a tough loss in the top doubles draw as Elhadj and sophomore Skyla Alcon fell 6-4 in the No.1 match. In other singles action, Emma Roenholt, a freshman from Denmark, made her debut in the fifth draw but fell in straight sets. Vivian Lin, Kristen Poei and Alcon also lost in straight sets to LMU Thursday. Â
The Matadors will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 28 when they open Big West Conference play with a road match at UC Riverside. First serve is slated for 11 a.m.Â
