Matadors Defeat Highlanders For First Big West Win Of 2026

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (10-6, 1-3 Big West) won in dominant fashion over UC RIverside, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon at Matador Tennis Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Matadors (10-6, 1-3 Big West) set the tone early by claiming the doubles point with wins on the top two courts. At No. 1 doubles, Angela Ho and Nicole West defeated Ramey Yu and Kei Kato, 6-1. Emma Moratalla Sanz and Sandra Arguelles followed with a 6-2 victory over Crystal Kim and Sam Condevillamar at Court No. 2 to secure the early 1-0 lead.

CSUN carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches. West was first off the court at No. 3, leading 4-1 against Susannah Su before Su retired, giving the Matadors a 2-0 advantage.Â

Freshman Satsuki Ishikawa earned her eighth consecutive win and extended the CSUN lead with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Camile Li at No. 4. The score was now 3-0.

The Highlanders then earned their lone point at Court No. 2, where Kato defeated Moratalla Sanz, 6-4, 6-4, to make it 3-1.Â

CSUN quickly responded with three more victories to clinch the match. Madison Shepperson battled past Crystal Kim in three sets at Court No. 5, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.

"We had a great start in doubles and we had some good energy," said Shepperson about the win. "I kept that energy throughout singles even with dropping the second set. I'm happy with the way i kept fighting and figuring out how to pull through in the third to earn the win."

 Tallia Harper added a 6-2, 7-5 win over Sam Condevillamar at Court No. 6. "I am proud of the team's effort today." Harper said. "You can see everyone fighting and trying their absolute best. We've all been putting in the work and I'm so proud of all of us." Â

And In the final match of the day, Angela Ho closed out the victory with a dominant third set, defeating Ramey Yu 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 at Court No. 1.Â

"Today was a great test for the team," said Ho. "We started off very well in doubles, which set the tone for our play in singles. Singles were tough, but I was able to battle through and win a big third set. The team energy was also high during the whole match, and that helped me stay positive."

CSUN will play at UC Irvine on Saturday, April 4 at UC Irvine Tennis Stadium. First serve is at noon.

- This was CSUN's 22nd consecutive win over UC Riverside. CSUN holds a 44-1 record all-time.
- Ishikawa is now 8-0 to start her collegiate career.
- Shepperson is now 7-3 following her win today.
- West and Ho are now 9-4 as a doubles tandem so far in 2026.
- UC Riverside falls to 3-16 and 0-7 in Big West play.
- Moratalla Sanz and Arguelles are 7-4 in doubles play with their win today,
