UC Davis Scores Twice With 22 Seconds Left To Defeat CSUN 4-2

UC Davis scored two goals in the final 22 seconds of the second half to give the Aggies a 4-2 victory over CSUN in the semifinals of the Big West Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament.

DAVIS, Calif.—UC Davis scored two goals in the final 22 seconds of the second half to give the Aggies a 4-2 victory over CSUN in the semifinals of the Big West Conference Men's Soccer Tournament.

The Aggies (11-7-2) opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Justin Wright converted a low shot from the left side through to the right post. Lizandro Torres earned the assist on the play. Â Nabi Kibunguchy extended the lead to two with an unassisted goal in the 19th minute.

UC Davis press throughout the first half. CSUN goalie Henrik Regitnig kept the Matadors in the match, making five saves on the eight Aggies' attempts. Three of Regitnig's saves were from point-blank range.

Regitnig and UC Davis goalie Wallis Lapsley exchanged saves from point blank range in the first 10 minutes before CSUN cut the Davis lead in half in the 59th minute. Emmanuel Usen Jr and Daniel Trejo created a give-and-go that resulted in Usen Jr.'s 11th goal of the season.

With just over 17 minutes to go, the Aggies were called for a foul just outside the box. The foul resulted in a CSUN direct kick which was taken by Jumoke Hutton. Hutton's attempt just went high. The Matadors earned a corner with 10:36 to play. The ball was sent into Darion Mealing. Mealing's blast was saved by Lapsley.

With 9:01 to go, Kibunguchy was issued a red card after a scrum near the sideline. Â A minute later Mealing tied the score with goal from a sharp angle on the right side. The Aggies scored the gamewinner with 22 seconds to go in the second half. Noah Wilson capped off a fast break that Kyle Higgins started down the right side. UCD added an insurance goal with two seconds to goal when Higgins took advantage of a CSUN turnover to score from just in front of the net.

CSUN concludes the season with a 10-9-2 mark, the most wins for the program (15) since 2013.
