NORTHRIDGE, CA - Junior Felix Mory is in the top 10 as the CSUN men's golf team opened with a 291 Monday at the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah.
CSUNÂ is tied for sixth in the 12-team field but is just two strokes out of the top five.Â
Mory fired a three-under 69 and is tied for seventh with 18 holes to be played Tuesday. Senior Tavit Garabedian is also in the hunt as he carded a one-under 71 and is tied for 15th place.
"Felix and Tavit played well today although Felix wasn't really happy with his round," said CSUN head coach Jim Bracken. "If 74 is our worst score I'm ok with that, but when you have to count a 77 on this golf course it's a little frustrating. We can move up with a good round tomorrow, we're talented enough to have all our guys shoot under par."
Elsewhere for the Matadors, Michael Zhang, competing as an individual, is tied for 27th at one-over 73. Trym Falch posted a two-over 74 and is tied for 33rd, Tomas Skajem is tied for 46th at five-over 77, Sam Engel is tied for 65th at eight-over 80 and Sevian Frangipane is 74th at 15-over 87 competing individually.
Utah Valley holds the team lead at 10-under 278 while Long Beach State individual Kymer Li is the individual leader at six-under 66.
The final round is scheduled for Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. local time. CSUNÂ will be paired with Air Force and Boise State for the final round.
