NORTHRIDGE, CA - Three CSUN players finished in the top 20 and the Matador men's golf team finished fifth at the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational Tuesday at Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah.
CSUN carded a final round 289, a two-shot improvement over Monday's first round as the Matadors finished at four-over 580 for their second top five finish in two spring tournaments.
"It's always positive to move up on the final day, even if it's just one spot," said Bracken. "We didn't make a ton of putts today so we could have been better, but overall it's another positive step moving forward. Our next tournament in Palm Desert this weekend will be a big challenge for the guys."
Junior Felix Mory carded a final round 73 to finish one-over for the day and two-under for the tournament at 142. Mory's eighth place finish was his best of the season and second top 10 finish of 2016-17.
Senior Tavit Garabedian followed up a first round 71 with a second round of even-par 72 to finish tied for 13th at one-under 143. Garabedian's 13th place finish was his first top 20 finish after posting a pair of top 10 finishes this season.
Junior Trym Falch made it three Matadors in the top 20 as he tied for 20th at one-over 145. Falch followed up a 74 on Monday with a one-under 71 on Tuesday to post his first top 20 finish as a Matador.
Also for CSUN, Michael Zhang, playing as an individual, finished tied for 74th at eight-over 152 (73-79), Sam Engel finished tied for 53rd at nine-over 153 (80-73), Tomas Skajem finished tied for 62nd at 12-over 156 (77-79) and Sevian Frangipane, also an individual, finished tied for 69th at 17-over 161 (87-74).
Utah Valley led from start to finish to take the team title at 16-under 560 while Matt Naumec of Boston College won the individual title by one shot over Long Beach State's Kymer Li.
CSUNÂ has a quick turnaround as the Matadors head back out for a weekend tournament in Palm Desert as CSUN competes at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at the Classic Club in Palm Desert.
