Matadors 13th After Two Rounds of Battle at the Rock

NORTHRIDGE, CA - The CSUN women's golf team opened the spring portion of the 2016-17 season Monday as the Matadors are 13th through two rounds of the Battle at the Rock at Oak Quarry Golf Club in Riverside.
As a team, CSUN posted rounds of 318 and 313 for a day one total of 631. Hawai'i leads the 15-team field with a score of 599.
Individually, sophomore Ysabel Tran is bidding for a top 20 finish as she is currently tied for 19th at nine-over 153. Tran had a pair of birdies and 14 pars as she bounced back from an opening round 80 with a one-over 73 in round two.
Shenna DeLeon, Savannah Cooper and Alice Duan are among five players tied at 15-over 159. DeLeon opened with a four-over 76 before posting a second round 83. Cooper, making her Matador debut as an individual, opened with a three-over 75 before carding an 84 in the afternoon round. Alice Duan posted a five-shot improvement from round one to two as she went from an opening round 82 to a second round of five-over 77.
Newcomer Kayla Yn also made her CSUN debut as she is tied for 62nd at 18-over 162 following rounds of 80-82 and Brianna Steger is tied for 68th at 19-over 163 after posting scores of 82-81.
Northern Arizona's Sofia Anokhina holds a two-shot lead in the individual chase as she sits at even-par 144 through 36 holes.
All teams tee off the final round beginning at 7:30 a.m. with the Matadors going off holes 13-16.
