CSUN Places 13th at Battle at the Rock

NORTHRIDGE, CA - The CSUN women's golf team posted a final round 314 to finish 13th at the Battle at the Rock at Oak Quarry Golf Club in Riverside.
The tournament, an early season preview of the Big West Championship in late April, featured several Big West teams among the 15-team field. The Matadors finished with team rounds of 318-313-314 to post a three-round score of 945.
Sophomore Ysabel Tran narrowly missed her fourth top 20 finish of the season as a final round four-over 76 dropped her two spots into a tie for 21st. Tran, who posted rounds of 80-73 on Monday, had 13 pars and one birdie over the final round but three bogeys and one double bogey dropped her to four-over.
Freshman Alice Duan made a charge in the final round as she moved up 11 spots with a two-over 74. Duan led CSUN with three birdies, to go with 11 pars, over the final round to finish in a tie for 35th at 17-over 233.
Also for the Matadors, Shenna DeLeon finished tied for 56th at 26-over 242 (76-83-83), Kayla Yn finished tied for 62nd at 27-over 243 (80-82-81) and Brianna Steger finished 76th at 33-over 249 (82-81-86). Savanah Cooper also competed as an individual, finishing 49th at 22-over 238 following rounds of 75-84-79.
Cal Poly captured the team championship with a three-round score of 903 while Northern Arizona's Sofia Anokhina took home medalist honors at even-par 216.
CSUN is back in action Feb. 27-28 as the Matadors compete at the Bruin Wave Invitational at San Luis Obispo Country Club.
