NORTHRIDGE, CA - Sophomore Ysabel Tran fired a second round 69 to finish second while the CSUN women's golf team took seventh at the rain-shortened Sacamento State Invitational at Sierra View Country Club in Roseville.
Tran opened the tournament Monday with a three-over 75 before posting six birdies on her way to a second round three-under 69. The CSUN sophomore's second round 69 is the low by a CSUN player this season as is her two round, even-par 144. Her second place finish is her team-leading third top 10 finish this season and matches her second place finish from the Santa Clara Colby Classic in the fall.Â
Tran finished just three strokes behind individual winner Sofia Anokhina of Northern Arizona who finished at three-under 141. The tournament was shortened to two rounds due to rain and lightning Tuesday in the Sacramento area.
As a team, the Matadors were eighth after an opening round 316 before just missing their low 18 holes of the season with a second round 298. Host Sacramento State won the team title at 598 while CSUN was seventh at 614 in a tightly packed field.
Freshman Alice Duan also made a second round charge as she moved up from 41st to 29th following a second round two-over 74. Duan had the third most pars in the 76 player field with 25. Combined with her opening round 80, Duan finished at 10-over 154.
Also for the Matadors, Kayla Yn tied for 39th at 13-over 157 (80-77), Shenna DeLeon tied for 45th at 15-over 159 (81-78) and Savanah Cooper tied for 69th at 26-over 170.
CSUN returns to competition next week as the Matadors travel to Bakersfield to compete at the Bakersfield Invitational at Bakersfield Country Club (Mar. 27-28).
