Matadors 10th After Two Rounds at Wyoming Cowgirl Classic

NORTHRIDGE, CA - The CSUN women's golf team sits 10th after posting team rounds of 305-307 Thursday at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, AZ.
At 612, the Matadors are in the middle of the pack in the 18-team field. UC Irvine holds the team lead through two rounds at 586 with Sacramento State two strokes back.
Individually, junior Savanah Cooper is bidding for her best finish of the season as she is the low CSUN player after 36 holes. Cooper had three birdies in the first round as she matched her season low round with a three-over 75. In round two, Cooper was one-under through 10 holes before a pair of double bogeys over her final five holes dropped her to five-over 77.
Cooper is currently tied for 32nd at eight-over 152 while teammate Alice Duan is a shot back at nine-over 153. Duan had three birdies over two rounds as she opened with a five-over 77 before bouncing back with a four-over 76 in round two.
Sophomore Ysabel Tran is another stroke back as she is tied for 48th at 11-over 155. Tran, CSUN's leading scorer this season, had a single birdie and 24 pars over 36 holes. Shenna DeLeon led the Matadors with five birdies on Thursday and overcame a tough opening round to post a second round two-over 74. DeLeon (82-74) is tied for 55th at 12-over 156 with teammate Kayla Yn who posted consecutive rounds of 78.
Jakeishya Le of UC Riverside and Julia Becker of Sacramento State share the individual lead at two-under 142.Â
The Matadors will be paired with UTEP and Sacamento State for the final round which tees off at 7:45 a.m.
