
CSUN Beach Volleyball Drops 3-2 Decision to Stanford

NORTHRIDGE, CA - The CSUNÂ beach volleyball team staged a Saturday battle with the visiting Stanford Cardinal before the visitors claimed the final pair to pull out a 3-2 win at the Matador Beach Volleyball Facility.
After the two teams split the first two matches, it all came down to the No. 5 match as CSUN's Nico Stork and Nicolette Pinkney battled Stanford's Courtney Bowen and Kat Anderson. After the Cardinal won the first set 21-18, Stork and Pinkney had set point at 20-19 before the Cardinal served three straight points to seal the 22-20 win.
The win at No. 5 sealed the dual match win for Stanford which improved to 6-2 on the season while the Matadors dropped to 2-4.
"I thought that Nico and Nicolette did some great things and were in a good position to win the second set but it didn't happen," said CSUN head coach Jeff Stork. "I'm proud of the team,  I think we're making some big improvements and losing 3-2 to a good Stanford team is definitely something to build on."
CSUN got off to a good start in the day's first three matches as the No. 2 team of Maddie Leiphardt and Nickeisha Williams swept the Cardinal pair of Ivana Vanjak and Payton Chang 21-10, 21-19. Leiphardt and Williams improved to 4-1 in the five matches they've played as a duo this season. The Matadors also won the the exhibition match in the early session as Daniella Molinari and Cassidy Rosso won by the score of 21-18, 22-20.
The visitors claimed the No. 4 pair as Kristey Markle and Autumn Russell lost to Morgan Hentz and Caitlin Keefe 21-12, 21-13.
The Matadors then took a brief 2-1 lead when Aeryn Owens and Erin Indermill swept the No. 3 match over Catherine Raquel and Shannon Richardson 21-12, 21-18. The Cardinal answered with a win in the No. 1 match on center court as Kathryn Plummer and Jenna Gray swept CSUN's Julie Haake and Katie Sato 21-7, 21-11 which set the stage for the conclusion of the No. 5 match which went to the Cardinal.
CSUNÂ continues its homestand next week as the Matadors host California and Loyola Marymount in a tri dual match next Thursday, Mar. 30. CSUN and Cal play at 11 a.m. followed by the Bears against LMU at 1 p.m. and CSUN-LMU at 3 p.m.
