In two midweek games this week, CSUN fell at UCLA, 7-2, on Tuesday but bounced back with a 10-5 win over Holy Cross on Wednesday at Matador Field. Kevin Riley picked up three RBI and hit a home run as well in the win over Holy Cross while Justin Toerner finished with four hits and two runs scored.Â
Heading into the weekend, the Matadors' weekend starting rotation is boasting a collective 1.59 ERA this season. Hitters are also managing a .184 batting average against the rotation. Starting Friday, junior right hander Andrew Weson is 2-1 with a 1.83 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 19.2 innings of work this season. Senior right hander Samuel Myers gets the start on Saturday and he comes into the game with a 1-1 record to go along with a 2.51 ERA and 11 strikeouts over 14.1 innings. Reigning Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week, junior right hander Tei Vanderford (2-1) will start Sunday and he is posting an 0.79 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 22.2 innings. CSUN's Monday starter will be announced later in the series.Â
Newcomer to the roster this season, junior second baseman Alvaro Rubalcaba leads the team with a .344 average at the plate to go along with six runs scored and two RBI. CSUN's lone win against Purdue last season came in game three of the series as Kenny Rosenberg tossed a two-hit shutout in a 6-0 win. In the teams' only meeting at Matador Field, CSUN earned an 8-6 win during the 2001 campaign.Â
