CSUN Travels to UC Santa Barbara for Big West Series

Matadors and Gauchos Play Three Games at Campus Diamond

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN softball team (24-13, 4-2 Big West) hits the road for a three-game Big West Conference series against the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos this weekend. The teams will play a single game on Friday, April 14 at 3 p.m. followed by a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 15 at Campus Diamond. All three games will feature live stats available on the softball schedule page of GoMatadors.com and updates will be tweeted on the CSUN Softball account (@CSUNSoftball).
Last week, CSUN recorded its first Big West series sweep of the Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine with several thrilling performances. In a game one comeback victory, Katie Hooper hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh after Taylor Nate and Savannah Horvath also hit home runs to engineer the victory. In the circle, Rebecca Bell tossed over five innings of relief work to earn the win.Â
In game two, CSUN continued to swing a hot bat as Taylor Glover went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and two stolen bases. Three other Matadors added an RBI and Hooper added a two-hit performance. In game three, Daphne Pofek recorded her second complete-game win of the day while Glover and Karlie Habitz produced RBIs.Â
This week, CSUN travels to Santa Barbara for three games with the Gauchos. UCSB enters the weekend with a 22-19 overall record and a 3-3 mark in conference play. The Gauchos lost their opening series in league action at Cal Poly before rebounding with two victories over UC Riverside. In the circle, Veronika Gulvin is 16-8 with a 2.78 ERA in 145.1 innings of work.Â
Offensively, Sierra Altmeyer leads the Gauchos in multiple offensive categories. She is hitting .392 with 35 runs, nine doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 27 RBIs on the season. Jessica Johnston and Alyssa Diaz each have 12 doubles on the year and Kristen Clark has 43 hits on the season to give her 274 for her career. As a team, UCSB leads the Big West with 63 doubles.Â
