CSUN Softball Closes Out 2017 With Series at UC Davis

Matadors and Aggies Meet for Three Games to Wrap Up 2017

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN softball team (29-21, 9-9 Big West Conference) hit the road one final time in 2017, traveling to UC Davis for a three-game Big West Conference series at LaRue Field. The Matadors and Aggies will play a single game at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 12 followed by a doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday, May 13. Last week, the Matadors came up short in their series at Cal State Fullerton. In game of the series, the Matadors carried a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the 10th only to see the Titans post a walk-off victory. Saturday's doubleheader was undone by several Matador errors and the Titans captured their second-straight Big West Championship.Â
During the series, several Matadors continued to climb the program and Big West all-time record books in several categories. Savannah Horvath hit a pair of home runs to give her 33 for her career, tying for fourth in school and eighth in Big West Conference history. Katie Hooper hit her 50th career double, becoming just the fifth player in Big West history to reach the total. Taylor Glover scored a pair of runs over the weekend to move into a tie for second in Big West Conference history with 162 career runs.Â
This weekend, the Matadors face a UC Davis squad coming off a series victory at UC Santa Barbara. The Aggies are 21-30 overall and 6-12 in the Big West Conference and feature several talented players on offense and defense. Senior Brianna Warner is batting .348 with 32 runs, 12 RBIs and 27 stolen bases. She enters the weekend with 91 career stolen bases, ranking third in Big West history and one stolen base behind Glover for their careers.Â
Taylor Peters is also batting .348 and has 19 runs, nine RBIs and 13 stolen bases. Christa Costello checks in at .314 with seven doubles, three triples and 15 RBIs and as a team, UCD has totaled 38 doubles, 12 triples, 15 home runs and 74 stolen bases.Â
In the circle, Katie Kibby is 14-8 with a 3.09 ERA, 73 Ks and a .254 opponent batting average in 154 innings of work. Andrea Reynolds is 6-16, but sports a 3.13 ERA in 127.1 innings of work. Opponents have totaled 63 doubles, 15 triples and 27 home runs on the year.Â
