Madison Fleming Collects Three Hits, Two RBIs in Defeat
In a wild affair, the Matadors scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-6 lead. Mackenzie Babbitt started the inning with a triple and after Savannah Horvath was hit by a pitch, Katie Hooper delivered an RBI single to score Babbitt. The RBI was the 160th of Hooper's career, moving her into a tie for fifth in Big West Conference history.Â
After a fielder's choice off the bat of Jessica Alexander, Fleming blasted a two-run double off the fence in left to score Taylor Nate, who was running for Hooper, and Alexander to give CSUN the momentary advantage.Â
However, the Aggies scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to win the game. With the bases loaded and one out, the Matadors nearly turned a double play to seal the victory, but the throw to first sailed wide and allowed the winning run to come around from second.Â
CSUN jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first after Babbitt reached on an error, moved to third on a single from Glover and then scored on an error when Glover stole second.Â
The lead lasted until the bottom of the second when UC Davis scored twice off CSUN starter Daphne Pofek. In the third, Taylor Troost came in for Pofek and kept UCD off the scoreboard.Â
CSUN reclaimed the lead in the fourth when Tara Kliebenstein delivered a two-run, two-out double to score Fleming and Alejandra Rascon. The Aggies responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame, chasing Troost from the circle in favor of Rebecca Bell.Â
In the fifth, Glover doubled and scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 5-4. The Aggies added a run in the sixth to set up the dramatic seventh.Â
Cheyenne Noli (0-2) took the loss for CSUN in the circle, tossing 1.2 innings with one hit, one earned run and two walks.Â
Glover finished with two hits in the loss, moving her career total to 290 and four shy of setting a new all-time school record. The run she scored in the fifth was the 163 of her career, moving her into second outright in Big West Conference history with 163 career runs.Â
CSUN and UC Davis wrap up the 2017 season on Saturday with a doubleheader from LaRue Field slated for a noon start.Â
