TEMPE, Ariz.—Nebraska defeated CSUN 9-1 in the final game of the Kajikawa Classic for the Matadors Sunday morning.
Â
The Huskers did most of their damage in the bottom of the second when Nebraska sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs. Bri Cassidy sparked the inning with a three-run home run.
Â
Savannah Horvath broke the seal for the Matadors with an RBI double in the top of the third. The Huskers scored one more in the fourth and one in the fifth to invoke the eight-run mercy rule.
Â
Tristen Edwards was 3-for-3 with an RBI to pace the Huskers. Lexey Kneib went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Alyvia Simmons also recorded two hits for Nebraska. Four different CSUN players had one hit.
Â
"Nebraska is a good team and they came out ready to play," said CSUN head coach Tairia Flowers. "Overall, it was a good weekend for us to see what we need to work on and get the jitters out of the way. We are looking forward to practice next week and building on all of our strengths."
Â
The Matadors (1-4) travel to UNLV Marucci Desert Classic next weekend. CSUN will play five games beginning Friday with a twin-bill against Bradley (11:15 a.m.) and South Dakota (6 p.m.).
