NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN women's tennis team fought hard for two hours but ultimately mother nature had other plans, as rain halted the Matadors' dual against Drake Wednesday at the Matador Tennis Courts. The match does not count in the record books.
Â
CSUN opened the dual by taking the doubles point as Skyla Alcon and Monika Van de Vondel defeated Tess Herder and Liza Petushkova 7-5, and Alicia Dinkelmeyer and Mari Taslagyan defeated Summer Brills and Kenya Williams, 6-3. The Bulldogs ultimately won the final doubles match as Joely Lomas and Mela Jaglarz defeated Arpe Bagumyan and Scout Shutter 6-3.
Â
Singles play opened with CSUN's Alicia Dinkelmeyer beating Liza Petushkova, 6-2, 6-3 on court No. 3. The rest of the singles matches could not be completed due to rainfall.
Â
"I felt good that we were up 2-0 and took the doubles point of a team (Drake) who is 10-3 on the season." said CSUN head coach Gary Victor. "Skyla [Alcon] and Monika [Van de Vondel] really stepped it up and were able to come back and win the doubles point. We have played with a ton of injuries throughout this season and I am really proud of the way our team competes when being short-handed."
Â
CSUN will host Texas State on Friday for a 10 a.m. start if the weather permits.
