CSUN Hosts Matador Classic This Weekend

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN softball team returns home this weekend as the Matador Classic will take place on the Matador Diamond.

The tournament opens Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. when CSUN faces Pacific. The Tigers take on Georgia Tech at 11:45 before day one wraps up at 2 p.m. when the Matadors play the Yellow Jackets.

Saturday's play gets underway at 8 a.m. when CSUN meets Pacific for the second time. At 10:15 a.m., Cal Poly matches up against Pacific. The Mustangs stay on the field at 12:30 p.m. to play Georgia Tech. Day two concludes at 2:45 p.m. when the Yellow Jackets face Santa Clara.

The tournament concludes on Sunday. Santa Clara plays Georgia Tech for the second time at 10 a.m. before Cal Poly wraps up the tournament against the Broncos at 12:45 p.m.

Pacific brings a 10-16 record to Northridge this week. The Tigers' Hailey Reed was named WCC Player of the Week. She struck out seven in seven innings of work last week. She faced 24 batters, allowing only three hits. She is 3-4 on the year and leads the team in strikeouts with 33.

Samantha Owen is the team leading in batting (.380). She has posted three home runs and 21 runs batted in. Sydney Lahners has posted a team leading eight home runs and a team leading 24 RBI. She is hitting .365. This will be the 63rd and 64th meetings between CSUN and Pacific with the Matadors leading the all-time series 37-26.

Georgia Tech steps out of ACC play this week with a 16-9 overall record, and a 5-1 league mark.

Cameron Stanford is the team leader in hitting (.351). Draveon Sonno is hitting .318 with a team leading six home runs and a team high 19 RBI. Emily Anderson is 12-4 and has pitched 108.2 of a possible of 168.2 innings this season for Georgia Tech. She has struck out 104 and has posted a 1.29 ERA. This is the first time that CSUN and Georgia Tech are playing softball against each other.

CSUN (11-22) dropped a 2-1, 11-inning decision to No. 5 Oklahoma on Monday. Megan Stevens drove in the lone run for the Matadors, her team leading 30th of the year. Monday's game concluded a seven-game stretch for CSUN in which the club went 2-5.

Savannah Horvath became the school record holder for career doubles when she recorded her 51st double against DePaul on Mar. 16. She broke the old mark of 50 which was set by Katie Hooper (2014-17). Her 51 doubles are the fifth most in Big West history. Barbara Moody of Pacific (2000-03) is the Big West record holder with 59. She is sixth among active Division I players in doubles. Horvath is 1-of-4 players tied for the Division I lead in the category with 13 entering this weekend's action.
