IRVINE, Calif.—CSUN continues a six-game road trip this weekend when the Matadors head to Cal Poly. The series begins Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
Â
The teams resume action Sunday at 1 p.m. Cal Poly will produce a video feed for game one on Saturday and will produce an audio broadcast for each game. All of those links including the live stats are available on the softball schedule page on GoMatadors.com.
Â
Cal Poly is 19-19, 3-6 in Big West play. The Mustangs are coming off a weekend in which Cal Poly took 2-of-3 from UC Davis. Stephanie Heyward (.324) is Cal Poly's leading hitter.
Â
In the circle, Lindsey Chalmers earned Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week honors on the strength of her first career no-hitter Apr. 16. Chalmers produced the no-no in Saturday's 1-0 victory over UC Davis. She faced just two Aggie hitters over the minimum in dealing the program's first hitless performance since Sierra Hyland threw a perfect game versus Weber State on May 22, 2017. Chalmers finished the week 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 14.0 innings of work. She lowered her ERA to 2.54.
Â
This will be the 128th, 129th, and 130th meetings between CSUN and Cal Poly with the Matadors leading the all-time series 79-47-1.
Â
For the second time this season, CSUN's Savannah Horvath has been named Big West Softball Field Player of the Week Apr. 16. Horvath, who tallied her fourth career weekly citation, hit the dinger in the seventh inning of Sunday's 6-1 victory over UC Riverside. She moved into sole possession of the No. 2 spot in the Big West record book, ahead of Cal State Fullerton's Yasmin Mossadeghi (47, 1999-2002).
Â
Horvath trails Long Beach State's Darian Tautalafua by five for the Big West career home runs record. Tautalafua hit 53 bombs from 2013-16. Horvath's home run was her 13th of the season, which is tops in the Big West. She finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk. The shortstop reached base in all three games of the series with the Highlanders. In the 5-0, game two victory, she finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. She hit .500 (4-for-8) in leading CSUN to two wins during the series. She also posted a .875 slugging percentage for the week.
