LOS ANGELES—Journey Rojas and Savannah Horvath both recorded two hits for CSUN, but No. 3 UCLA defeated the Matadors 8-3 Tuesday night at Easton Stadium.Â
The Bruins (32-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an Aaliyah Jordan RBI single. UCLA batted around in the bottom of the third, scoring five times. Brianna Tautalafua highlighted the rally with a two-run home run.Â
Jordan hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to give her four runs batted in for the game. Savannah Horvath got the Matadors on the board in the top of the fifth with a two-out double that plated Kenedee Jamerson. Horvath came around on a UCLA error to score the second CSUN run. Kira Cauley drove Horvath for the second time with a two-out double in the seventh.Â
Four players, led by Jordan each had two hits for UCLA which tallied 13 for the game. Journey Rojas was 2-for-3 while Horvath recorded her team leading 11th multi-hit game by charting a 2-for-4 peformance.
"We were down to our last out and it could have been a quick five innings, but we figured out a way to push a couple of runs across," said CSUN head coach Tairia Flowers. "We were getting people on and figured out a way to get another one in. We did a good job defensively with no errors, so that's always a plus against a good team."
The Matadors (16-25, 1-2 Big West) resume action Saturday when CSUN hosts Cal State Fullerton (18-19, 3-0 Big West) in a Big West Conference doubleheader.Â
