Jocelin Soto was hit by a pitch to give the Matadors a pair of runners. Sophie Frost, the Cal State Fullerton starter, threw a wild pitch to the backstop to advance the runners a base. Haileigh Gonzalez grounded out to short, but the ball was deep enough to plate Rojas. Kenedee Jamerson flew out to the center to end the inning.Â
Julia Valenzula singled to lead off the Titans' third. Â Brooke Clemetson attempted to lay down a sacrifice bunt. The ball was popped up, Soto, the Matadors' third baseman, caught the ball and threw down to Jamerson at first. She made the stretch to complete the double play. Sammie Vandiver singled. Hill hit a ground rule double to drive in both runners for the first Cal State Fullerton lead of the game. Ybarra walked. Brannen's fly out to left wrapped up the frame.Â
Vandiver walked to open the top of the fifth. Williams attempted to sacrifice her over. Jamerson fielded the ball, but threw the ball away, allowing both runners to reach the next base safely. Hill's sacrifice fly plated Vandiver. Ybarra's bunt was fielded by James who attempted to get the runner at home. Williams scored to make it 4-1. A two-out Horvath RBI single in the bottom of the seventh scored Jamerson to break the seal for the Matadors. Richard was 3-for-4 to pace the Titans. Three other Cal State Fullerton players each tallied two hits. Cauley and Horvath both went 2-for-3 for CSUN.Â
"Fullerton came out ready to play and played some good softball," said CSUN head coach Tiara Flowers. "We had some moments in which we had an opportunity to score and we didn't come up with a big hit. It wasn't the best day for our pitchers, but I am looking forward to seeing how we respond tomorrow."
