RIVERSIDE, Calif - The CSUN women's cross country team, paced by Heidi Eligio, finished 16th in the 6k race while the men, paced by Noah Contreras were 20th in the 8k race Saturday morning at the Highlander Invitational on the UCR AG OPS Course.Â
"The team continues to grow week after week," said head coach Justin Johnson. "The group competed hard and most of them came within seconds of their lifetime bests."Â
On the women's side, Eligio paced the Matadors for the first time this season when she finished 63rd with a time of 22:47.0. The junior from Burbank had an average mile time of 6:06. Following her lead was Alyssa DeStasio who finished 92nd with a time of 23:20.7. Sophomore Joy Bosede finished 113th with a time of 23:57.5
For the men's side of things, Contreras paced the Matadors for a third consecutive race while setting a PR in the process. The freshman from Granada Hills finished 126th with a time of 26:52.6 and an average mile pace of 5:24.4.Â
"Noah is having a great freshman campaign. His ability to come in as a freshman and set the tone is impressive." Johnson said.Â
Daniel Fendrich was next to follow for CSUN, he finished 148th with a time of 27:18.0.Â
CSUN will return to this same course for the Big West Championships on Nov. 2nd, however the Matadors' next race will be the Titan Invite hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The meet will take place on Friday, Oct. 25.Â
