FULL GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Men's Basketball (3-10) hits the road for the final time in non-conference play on Saturday to take on Boise State at 3 p.m. (PST). The game will stream live on the Mountain West Digital Network while Ghizal Hasan and Alan Zinsmeister are on the call in an audio broadcast on the CSUN Sports Network presented by Dignity Health.
The Matadors snapped a three-game skid last Sunday with an 85-50 win over Division II San Francisco State. CSUN led for nearly the entire contest en route to posting its largest margin of victory over an opponent since beating Vanguard in Dec. 2012 (120-69).
Sophomore Lamine Diane made his season debut in the win over the Gators, posting his 21st career double-double. Diane tallied 30 points and added 12 rebounds, four blocks and two steals in 29 minutes. It would also be a game to remember for junior Terrell Gomez who broke the Matadors' all-time career 3-point record. Gomez, who finished with 18 points, knocked down 4 3-pointers to surpass Josh Greene (2010-14) for the top spot with 229 career triples. Sophomore Elijah Harkless nearly recorded a triple-double as well as he registered 11 points, 11 rebounds and eight steals.
Gomez's march up the Matadors' all-time career scoring list continued this past Sunday. With his 18-point effort against San Francisco State, Gomez is tied with Jim Malkin (1959-62) for eighth place with 1,292 career points. Next up for Gomez, he can climb into sole possession of seven place on the list, occupied by Andre Chevalier (1990-94), with 20 more points.
Among the national leaders, Gomez is ranked near the top in several categories. Gomez is second in the country in 3-point field goals made (47), fourth in total points (289), fifth in 3-point field goals made per game (3.62) and ninth in points per game (22.6) and field goals made (96). His backcourt mate, sophomore Darius Brown II is 15th in the nation in assists to turnover ratio at 3.0.
In the Big West, Gomez leads the league in points per game, field goals made, 3-point field goals made and free throw percentage (92.6) while Brown II is first in assists to turnover ratio and second in assists per game (4.8). Harkless finds himself first in the Big West in steals per game (2.2) and fourth in rebounds per game (6.7). As a team, the Matadors are second in the conference in fewest turnovers per game (13.3) and 3-point percentage (36.0).
The Matadors are going for their first-ever win over Boise State on Saturday. The Broncos are 7-0 in the all-time series, dating back to 1991. Boise State is 5-0 at home in the series, winning the last meeting between the two teams, 79-62, in Dec. 2016. Darin Johnson led CSUN in scoring with 21 points in the team's last trip to Boise State three seasons ago.
