CSUN Drops 2 On Opening Day Of Softball Season

TEMPE, Ariz.—CSUN dropped a pair of games on opening day of the 2019 softball season on Friday at the Kaijkawa Classic.

Game 1
Oregon State defeated CSUN 8-0 in the season opener Friday morning.
CSUN fell 12-5 at the hands of No. 25 Oregon in the Friday nightcap.
"Overall, we did some good things, but we aren't playing good softball yet. I hope we learn from our mistakes and keep a positive aggressive mindset. We played two good teams today and we came up short. Great thing is that it's still early in the year."

Game 1
Oregon State defeated CSUN 8-0 in the season opener Friday morning.
- A Frankie Hammoude two-run home run in the bottom of the first earned the Beavers the lead.
- Missy Nunes extended the lead to 4-0 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third. Oregon State would score a total of three runs in the inning.
- Shelby Weeks recorded a two-RBI double in the bottom of the fifth.
- Camryn Ybarra clinched the victory with an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth.
- Marion Marizah limited CSUN to three hits to Jessica Alexander (a double), Haileigh Gonzalez, and Kenedee Jamerson.
CSUN fell 12-5 at the hands of No. 25 Oregon in the Friday nightcap.
- A Megan Stevens double plated Mackenzie Babbitt to open the scoring for the Matadors in the bottom of the first. Kiarra Crockett-Pope singled in Stevens later in the inning for a 2-0 CSUN score.
- The Ducks took advantage of two bases loaded walks in the top of the third to push ahead 3-2.
- The Matadors returned to the lead in the bottom of the third. Stevens tied the score with an RBI single that allowed Alexander to come home. Crockett-Pope created a 5-3 score with a two-run home run.
- The Ducks exploded for nine runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead for good.
- Shaye Bowden was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for Oregon.
- Stevens went 2-for-3 with two runs scored to go along with her two RBI. Crockett-Pope was 2-for-3 in the contest. Â Â
