CSUN Hits 4 Home Runs; Matadors Defeat CSUB 11-3

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—Megan Stevens went 3-for-3 with two home runs, five RBI, and four runs scored as CSUN defeated CSU Bakersfield 11-3 to open a six-game softball week for the Matadors.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stevens hit a two-run home run to open the scoring in the top of the first. Jaymi Steward added to the lead with a fielder's choice in the top of the second that plated Mackenzie Babbitt.
- Haileigh Gonzalez doubled in Stevens in the top of the third before Kiarra Crockett-Pope drove in Gonzalez with an infield single later in the inning.
- A Stevens single in the fourth put the Matadors up by six. The Roadrunners got on the board in the fifth with a pair of runs that were driven in by Cydney Curran and Paige Johnson.
- Babbit's single in the sixth increased the advantage to five. CSUN homered three times in the top of the seventh. Crockett-Pope and Steward both recorded solo blasts. Steward's shot was the first career homer for the sophomore.
- Stevens capped off the Matador scoring with her second two-run home run of the game, marking the second time in her CSUN career that she has hit two home runs in game (last vs. Missouri in week one of the 2018 season.
- The 'Runners added the final run of the game when Johnson recorded a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh that scored Karah Wiseman.
- For the third consecutive start, Jillian James struck out 12 batters. James went the first six innings, scattering five hits and not walking a batter. Stevens threw the final inning for the Matadors.
- In addition to Stevens who posted three hits, Babbitt and Crockett-Pope each charted three hits. Wiseman was 3-for-3 for CSUB.

- "We hit the ball well. I'd like to sure up our base running and we can always get better on defense. But we played hard today and we were fun to watch."

- CSUN continues to travel north and will open the Silicon Valley Classic II this weekend. Action gets underway on Friday at 9 a.m. against Northern Kentucky before concluding against Nevada at 4:30 p.m.
