CSUN Defeats Weber State; Rain Delayed Vs SJSU

SAN JOSE, Calif.—CSUN earned a victory over Weber State before rain put a halt to the Matadors' contest against San Jose State on day two of the Silicon Valley Classic II Saturday.

GAME 1
- CSUN defeated Weber State 7-1 to get the day off to a strong start.
- A Haileigh Gonzalez sac fly in the bottom of the first plated Kira Cauley to break the CSUN seal.
- The Matadors struck for four runs in the bottom of the second to break the game open. The rally was highlighted by a Jessica Alexander double that drove in two runs. Megan Stevens would add an RBI later in the frame.
- Weber State put runners on second and third in the top of the fifth which resulted in Jillian James coming in to relief Kenedee Jamerson. The Wildcats would push one across, but James put out the fire and she would retire seven of the final eight batters she faced to earn the save.
- The Matadors added two more in the bottom of the sixth.
- Cauley, Alexander, and Stevens combined for six of the 10 CSUN hits (two each). Cauley would score twice while Stevens would end up with three RBI.
- Jamerson earned the win by going the first four innings, James recorded the save by pitching the final three innings. The duo charted six strikeouts.
GAME 2
- CSUN and the Spartans got 1.5 innings before rain halted matters.
- Stevens hit a two-run home run in the top of the first to earn the Matadors an early advantage.
- Kiarra Crockett-Pope added to the lead with an RBI double in the top of the second. The Matadors added two additional runs in the second, scoring on a wild pitch and a Spartans' error.
- The teams will attempt to continue the game on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.

- "Our pitchers did a good job of complementing each other and we did a good job of scoring first and making things happen."
