NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN and UC Riverside split a Big West Conference softball doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1
- CSUN handed UC Riverside 4-0 defeat to begin the day.
- With no score and one out in the bottom of the fourth, Megan Stevens hit her 11th home run of the season to break the seal for the Matadors.Â
- With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Kira Cauley doubled in Gator Rascon to make it 2-0 in favor of CSUN.
- Danielle Ortega was hit by a Jillian James pitch to lead off the UCR sixth. With one out, Emma Ramelot, the Highlanders' leading home run hitter, lined a shot to Cauley left. Cauley made the catch and threw to Kiarra Crockett-Pope to complete the double play and the UC Riverside inning.
- Haileigh Gonzalez walked to lead off the Matador sixth. Stevens was intentionally walked to bring up Jessica Alexander. Alexander successfully sacrifice the runners up a base. Mackenzie Babbitt's infield single drove in Gonzalez. Crockett-Pope followed with a single through the left side that scored Stevens. Alyssa Vasquez grounded into a 6-4 fielder's choice for the second out. Rascon grounded out to short to end the inning.Â
- James picked up her 13th victory of the year, her fourth shutout. In her 12th complete game of 2019, James struck out seven and limited UC Riverside to two hits.
- Babbitt and Crockett-Pope both charted two hits. Stevens' home run was the 24th of her career, moving her to ninth in school history.
GAME 2
- UC Riverside defeated CSUN 8-1 in the nightcap.
- An illegal Kenedee Jamerson pitch on a called strike three to UCR leadoff hitter Hannah Rodriguez resulted in a walk began the nightcap. Jamerson walked Ortega before getting a double play to earn the first two outs. Ramelot walked to bring up Sarah Parten.
- The Matadors appeared to have Ramelot picked off from first to second, but she made it to second under the tag. With the count 0-1 on Parten, she singled to left to drive in two runs. Melanie Olmos grounded out to first to end the inning.Â
- Stevens tied the CSUN school record for most doubles in a season with her 17th to drive in Gonzalez for the first Matador run of the game to cut the UCR lead in half. Stevens tied the mark set by Shannon Jones in 1994 when CSUN advanced to the championship game of the Women's College World Series, falling to Arizona 4-0.Â
- UC Riverside scored an unearned run with two outs in the third to push lead to 3-1. The Matadors put runners on the corners in the bottom of the second before Olmos got Cauley to ground into a fielder's choice for the final out.Â
- The Highlanders added a run in the fifth when Olmos grounded out 3-4 to drive in Ramelot. The Matadors threatened in the bottom of the fifth as Cauley and Stevens both walked with two outs. Alexander grounder to short wrapped up the frame.
- Olmos helped her own cause, hitting her fourth home run of the year, a two-run blast in the top of the seventh. Haylee Kela hit a two-run home run later in the inning for the final UCR runs of the game.Â
- Despite walking six, Olmos limited CSUN to four hits, two of which were recorded by Rojas. Four UCR players had two hits, led by Olmos who was 2-for-4 with three RBI.
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH TAIRIA FLOWERS
- "We did a good job of coming out in game one. Good things happen when you shut down a good offense. Even though JJ didn't have her best stuff, she competed. In game two, I would have not liked for us to wait until the end to compete as well as we did. We have to be better overall."
