HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hannah Rodriguez was hit by a Jillian James pitch to begin the game. She moved to second on a Danielle Ortega single. Brittney Garcia popped out before Emma Ramelot doubled to the right center gap to plate both runners.
- Melanie Olmos struck out prior to Moana Pisia who worked out a walk. Nadia Witt reached on an infield single to load the bases. Amanda Lynch grounded out to second to end the inning.
- Kira Cauley led off the bottom of the first with a single up the middle. With one out, Megan Stevens was intentionally walked for the third consecutive plate appearance (fourth overall) dating back to the previous game. The strategy worked as the next two Matadors were retired in order to complete the inning.
- With two outs in the bottom of the third, Mackenzie Babbitt singled to bring up Stevens. Once again, Stevens was intentionally walked by Olmos. The decision once again paid off as Olmos struck out Journey Rojas to end the inning.Â
- Garcia tripled to right field with two outs in the top of the fourth to drive in Ortega for a 3-0 lead.
- Stevens was intentionally walked for the third time in the game to lead off the CSUN sixth. With Maddie Johnson running for Stevens, Olmos walked Rojas. Jacy Boles relieved Olmos. Her first batter was Kiarra Crockett-Pope who was walked on four pitches.
- Jessica Alexander popped out to center for the first out. Alyssa Vazquez grounded out to second, but Johnson was able to score to make it 3-1. Boles struck out pinch-hitter Aallyah Swan looking for the final out.Â
- For the second day in a row, Olmos hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning, extending the UCR advantage to the final 5-1 score.
- Witt and Garcia each charted two hits as the Highlanders recorded seven in the game. Â Olmos, who tossed a four-hitter in game two on Saturday, limited the Matadors to three hits before coming out of the game in the fifth. She struck out three, with three of her four walks being intentional to Stevens. Boles earned her fourth save of the season.
- Stevens made 10 plate appearances during the three-game set. She was intentionally walked in her final five times at the plate. The Rancho Cucamonga native was walked seven times during the weekend, six intentionally. She was officially 2-for-3 against the Highlanders with a double and her 11th home run of the season.
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH TAIRIA FLOWERS
- "We fell short in several areas. We put ourselves in a position to score some runs in the sixth inning and we got one. However, we didn't come up clutch in that situation. We will go back to the drawing board and hopefully we will get better next week."
