CSUN Travels To UC Santa Barbara

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN softball team hits the road this weekend when the Matadors travel to UC Santa Barbara. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. Sunday's series finale gets underway at 12 p.m. Coverage all weekend will be available on BigWest.tv.

UC Santa Barbara dropped two of three last weekend at Long Beach State to drop to 8-35 overall, 2-10 in Big West play. Sammy Fabian is second in Big West in hits (52), third in hitting (.397), and seventh in on-base percentage (.432).

Felisha Noriega is 6-16 in the circle for the Gauchos. She is ninth in the league in strikeouts with 68. She has a 3.55 ERA pitching 112.1 innings, the eighth most in the conference. This weekend's series will mark the 112th, 113th, and 114th times that CSUN and UCSB will be playing softball. CSUN leads the all-time series 68-42-1.

CSUN (21-24, 5-7 BWC) is coming off its first series victory of the season as the Matadors took 2-of-3 from Cal Poly last weekend. Kiarra Crockett-Pope led off the bottom of the 11th in game one with her seventh home run of the year to give CSUN a 4-3 victory in the opener. The Mustangs defeated the Matadors 3-2 in the middle game before CSUN defeated Cal Poly 5-3 in the series finale.

Crockett-Pope hit .444 during the series. Jillian James won both games in the circle, pitching all 18 innings that took place during those games. James only walked two while striking out nine.

Entering this weekend, CSUN catcher Gator Rascon has started 22 consecutive games behind the dish for the Matadors. Rascon has played all but one inning for CSUN during that span (157-of-158). Rascon has started a total of 34-of-35 games for the Matadors this season as the Matadors' catcher.
