CSUN Takes A Pair From UC Santa Barbara

GAME 1
- CSUN defeated UCSB 10-2 in the opener.
- The Matadors jumped out to a 5-0 lead after a half-inning. Kiarra Crockett-Pope, Jessica Alexander and Haileigh Gonzalez each posted an RBI before Jaymi Steward's fourth home run of the year, a two-run blast, with two outs capped off the scoring.
- Megan Stevens increased the lead to 7-0 with a two-RBI double in the top of the fourth.
- With one out in the bottom of the fourth, the Gauchos put two runners on base. Jillian James struck out Melanie Menor. Pinch-hitter Carissa Felix also struck out to end the inning. A Gator Rascon sac fly scored Alexander to push the CSUN advantage to 8-0.
- UCSB threatened in the bottom of the fifth. The Gauchos again had runners on the first and second with one out. Teah Thies broke the seal for UC Santa Barbara with a double that scored Maci Fines. Devan Sperry's sacrifice fly plated Sammy Fabian for an 8-2 score.
- Alexander opened the top of the seventh with a home run. Journey Rojas singled in a run to get the Matadors to double digits.
- Alexander, Gonzalez, Rascon, and Steward combined for eight of the 13 CSUN hits (two each). Â With a double, Stevens broke the CSUN school record for most doubles in a season with her 18th of the season. The old mark of 17 was set by Shannon Jones in 1994.
- Fabian was 2-of-4 to pace the Gauchos. James tossed a six-hitter, striking out nine, walking two.
GAME 2
- The Matadors took the nightcap 5-2.
- After a scoreless first three innings. Rascon's two-out RBI single in the top of the fourth put the Matadors into the lead. UCSB loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth, but could not push across a run.
- An Alexander fielder's choice in the top of the fifth was able to drive in the Matadors' second run. UCSB tied the score in the bottom of the inning when Fines and Menor each charted an RBI with two outs.
- CSUN took the lead back in the top of the sixth. With one out, Rascon singled. Pinch-runner Maddie Johnson advanced to third on a Rojas single. Johnson scored on Jamerson sac fly. Babbitt followed with an RBI single up the middle to drive in Rojas. Stevens capped off the scoring spurt with a double to center that drove in Babbitt.
- Jamerson scattered six hits over the first five innings before being relieved by James. James recorded two perfect innings for her second save of the season.
- Babbitt, Rascon, Stevens, and Steward each charted two hits for the Matadors. Stevens charted her 19th double during the game. Menor and Tyler Goldstein both tallied two hits for the Gauchos.
