HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUN loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the first but could not take advantage as Sophie Frost got Kiarra Crockett-Pope to line out to center to get out of the jam.
- The Titans threatened in the bottom of the first, putting runners on first and second with one out. Jillian James struck out the next two Titans to put down the threat.
- Megan Stevens provided the Matadors with the lead in the top of the third when she hit her ninth home run of the season, a two-run blast, for a 2-0 CSUN advantage.
- The Matadors added to the lead, scoring on a Cal State Fullerton error to make it 3-0. Alyssa Vazquez's sac fly drove in the fourth run of the inning.
- The Titans would get two back in the bottom of the third on RBI from Ari Williams and Daisy Munoz.
- With one out in the sixth, Irie Siofele singled up the middle. Sam Kennedy reached on a CSUN error that allowed Siofele to advance to third. After getting the second out, James walked Julia Valenzula to load the bases. Kelsie Whitmore struck out but reached first on a wild pitch. Sioele broke for home on the play where she was tagged out by CSUN catcher Gator Rascon.
- Crockett-Pope homered, her fifth of the year, with one out in the seventh to extend the CSUN lead to the final 5-2.
- James tossed a five-hitter. She struck out four in a row at one point and would finish the night with nine strikeouts against two walks.
- Stevens finished the night 2-for-2 with a walk. The victory broke an eight-game CSUN losing streak in the series that dated back to 2016.
