GAME 1
- The Matadors defeated the Rainbow Wahine 3-1 in the opener.
- Hawai'i took the lead in the top of the third when Callee Heen recorded a two-out triple that plated Alyssa Sojka. The Matadors threatened in the bottom of the third, but stranded runners at second and third.
- On an 0-2 count, Kira Cauley recorded an opposite field double to left center to begin the bottom of the sixth. Cauley advanced to third on a Heen passed ball. Mackenzie Babbitt reached on an error to give the Matadors runners on the corners. Megan Stevens, the Big West Conference's leading hitter, smacked her 13th home run of the season to give the Matadors the lead.
- Ashley Murphy relieved Isabella Dino and gave up a single to Kiarra Crockett-Pope. Pinch-runner Maddie Johnson advanced to second on a Haileigh Gonzalez sac bunt. Jaymi Steward singled to right to push Johnson to third. Gator Rascon struck out. Steward advanced to second on a wild pitch. Journey Rojas ground out to third to end the inning.Â
- With two outs in the top of the seventh, Nicole Lopez singled up the middle. Sojka singled off of Jillian James' leg to bring up Heen. CSUN went to the bullpen for Kenedee Jamerson to face Heen in a left handed pitcher-left handed batter matchup. Heen went up in the count 2-1 before grounding into a 4-6 fielder's choice to end the game.
- James improved to 18-11 on the year has she gave up six hits. The sophomore righty struck out eight.
- Jamerson picked up her third save, the fourth most by a CSUN pitcher at the Division I level. Rojas and Steward each charted two hits. Sojka's 2-for-4 performance paced Hawai'i.
GAME 2
- Hawai'i defeated CSUN 4-3 in the nightcap.
- Crockett-Pope led off the CSUN second with her eighth home run of the season on a 0-2 Brittany Hitchcock pitch.
- Brittnee Rossi opened the UH fourth with the first Rainbow Wahine hit, a single to right. Lopez followed with a double to the right center gap to drive in Rossi to tie the game.Â
- Madison Veldman led off the Hawai'i fifth with a single to center. Jamerson relieved Taylor Troost to face Chardonnay Pantastico. Jamerson struck out Pantastico. Carly Pina singled to bring up Tatumn Satow who loaded the bases when she reached on a bunt single.
- Rossi hit a ball to right center where Babbitt made a diving back-hand catch which resulted in a sacrifice fly and the second UH run.
- With one out in the bottom of the fifth Aaliyah Swan singled. Swan stole second. A Cauley single to right resulted in CSUN runners on the corners. Babbitt attempted to bunt Swan home. She missed. Heen, the UH catcher threw down to try and get Swan. Her throw went off Lopez's glove at third to allow Swan to score and tie the game.
- A Babbitt bloop single to left again put CSUN runners on the corners. Stevens grounded out to third which allowed Cauley to score the go-ahead run.
- Jamerson was called for three illegal pitches against Veldman to lead off the seventh. As a result, the count went from 0-2 to 3-2. With new life, Veldman homered to tie the game.
- Pantastico singled to right. James relieved Jamerson. Her first batter was Pina who singled to left. Satow's sac bunt attempt was misplayed by Rojas a third, loading the bases. Rossi struck out for the first out. Lopez who singled in the opener on a 13-pitch at-bat against James, went 13 pitches (the first seven were foul balls) again. She struck out, but all of the base runners advanced a base on a CSUN passed ball which allowed UH to go up 4-3.
- Cauley was hit by a Hitchcock 2-2 pitch with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Babbitt grounded out to short to end the game.
- Including her relief appearance, James raised her season strikeout total to 211. Only the 10th Matador to strike out at least 200 in a season, her total is the fourth most by a CSUN pitcher since the Matadors moved to the Division I level in 1991. Â
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH TAIRIA FLOWERS
- "We battled and put ourselves in a position to win the second game, but we just fell short. Both teams played some good softball today."
