Meet CSUN's Under Armour Faculty
12/14/2020 9:22:00 AM | General
The CSUN Under Armour Faculty are a group of professors and lecturers committed to assisting student-athletes in their academic success and professional development. The group was started in 2016 by Professor and Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Ed Jackiewicz and has since grown to nearly 30 faculty members from various majors across campus.
Â
Over the past few years, this group has assisted students through workshops, panel discussions, game attendance and one-on-one conversations. They are here to help you, the students. In the coming months, GoMatadors.com will introduce you to the various members of CSUN's UA Faculty.
Â
Danielle N. Jarvis, PhD, ATC
Associate Professor, Kinesiology
Started full time at CSUN in 2015
MS CSUNÂ
PhD University of Southern California
Â
Teaching Areas: Biomechanics, Dance Science, Research Methods, Athletic Training, Dance
Research Areas: Biomechanics and coordination of skilled athletic activities, mechanics of dance jumps, injury prevention for dancers, movement assessment of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders
Â
I grew up in Buffalo, NY and started dancing at the age of four, which drove my passion for understanding how the body works. I am an avid Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan despite their inability to win any championships… ever. I went to Ithaca College where I majored in Athletic Training and Exercise Science and minored in dance, but it took me a while to blend these two areas of interest and find my career. I spent a few years working as an Athletic Trainer at the high school level before going back to school (at CSUN!), getting my Master's degree in Kinesiology and then my PhD in Biokinesiology with an emphasis in biomechanics.
Â
Now I love working at CSUN where I am able to combine my interests and passions. I choreograph and dance in the CSUN dance performances as well as for a local dance company, LA Unbound. I also direct the Laboratory for Evaluating Athletic and Aesthetic Performance (LEAAP) where many undergraduate and graduate students get an opportunity to be involved in research. In my free time I like to travel and explore new places and go on hikes with my dog!
