2/1/2020 6:54:00 PM | Women's Basketball
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.--Cal Poly defeated CSUN 52-41 in Big West women's basketball action Saturday afternoon in the Matadome.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Cal Poly made its first three three-point field goals to get out to 11-2 start. CSUN scored four of the next six to make it 13-6 at the first quarter media timeout. The Matadors cut the Mustangs lead to 18-14 as the quarter ended.
Â

CSUN would finish the second quarter by making only one of their final seven shot attempts. The Mustangs charged to a 7-0 spurt to end the half and take a 29-20 advantage into the break.
Â
The CSUN scoring drought extended to the 6:15 mark of the third quarter before De'Jionae Calloway's layup put an end to span. After trailing by as many 13 in the third, the Matadors chipped away at Cal Poly and trailed 41-33 at the end of 30 minutes.
Â
CSUN closed to within six on two occasions in the fourth quarter, but could not get past that plateau. The Matadors went cold again, only scoring three points in the final 4:53. CSUN was forced to foul the Mustangs, Cal Poly's final six points of the game came at the free throw line as the Mustangs broke a four-game losing streak to the Matadors.
Â
CSUN was held to 29.1% shooting (16-of-55) for the game. The Mustangs weren't much better, shooting 38.8% (19-of-49). The Matadors forced 21 turnovers and made eight steals. Cal Poly outrebounded CSUN 43-32.
Â
Cal Poly (5-13, 2-5 Big West) was led by Sierra Campisano who scored 13 first-half points on the way to a game-high 21. The 6-3 forward went 3-of-4 from three-point range. She completed the double-double with 12 rebounds. She also added four assists and two blocks. Campisano was the lone Cal Poly player in double figures. Deja Williams scored 12 points to pace the Matadors. Calloway added 10.Â
Â
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH JASON FLOWERS
"I thought we did some things better in the second half and made some adjustments. Offensively, we opened up some things. We made some defensive adjustments in the fourth quarter that made it harder for them to score. Offensively we struggled. The shots we were getting, we weren't hitting."
