COACH JEFF CAMPBELL SAID
"It was great to get back in the win column and get the guys some confidence. (Daniel) Wetter was great tonight and it was also exciting to see a lot of the new guys play as well as they did. James (McMillan) played well as did Griffin (Walters) and Luke (Krzmarzick)."
SET 1
Krzmarzick's ace gave the Matadors an early 6-2 lead and CSUN extended the lead to 9-3 following a Wetter kill. After the visitors battled back to within four (11-7), the Matadors scored seven straight points to open up an insurmountable 18-7 cushion. Still leading by 10 at 18-8, CSUN went on a 4-0 run to lead 22-8 before closing out the set 25-10.
SET 2
Set two was tight until the Matadors went on a 4-1 run to snap a 6-6 tie. Leading by one at 10-9, the Matadors used a Bobcat service error to fuel a 7-1 run as McMillan's kill gave CSUN a 17-10 lead. Still comfortably in front 18-11, the Matadors watched the visitors roll off six straight points to knot the score at 18-18. After a Bobcat service error, UC Merced scored twice to take its first lead at 20-19. A kill from Krzmarzick tied the score at 20 and the score remained tied at 21-21 when a Wetter kill propelled CSUN on a set-clinching 4-1 run as the Matadors claimed the set 25-22.
