CSUN Sweeps On Day One Of Libby Matson Classic

STOCKTON, Calif.—CSUN posted a pair of victories on day one of the Libby Matson Classic, hosted by the University of Pacific on Friday.

GAME 1
- Megan Stevens' bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the sixth broke a scoreless tie as the Matadors defeated Seattle University 3-2 in the opener.
- With two outs in the sixth, Kira Cauley's single advanced Aailyah Swan to third. Jessica Alexander walked to load the bases, setting the stage for Stevens' game-winning hit. The Redhawks' Madison Cathcart and Brooke Milder recorded RBI's in the top of the seventh.
- Seattle U put the tying run on a second and had the go-ahead run on at first against CSUN starter Kenedee Jamerson. Stevens relieved Jamerson, getting Bailey Thompson to ground out back to her in the circle to end the game.
- SU outhit CSUN 13-4. Olivia Viggiano and Cherise Silvan both had three hits for the Redhawks. Stevens was 2-for-3 with a double to go along with her triple.
- CSUN completed the sweep of day one with a 3-0 victory over the host, Pacific, in the nightcap.
- Jessica Alexander's three-run home run in the top of the third gave the Matadors the lead. CSUN threatened in three additional innings. The Matadors left the bases loaded in the fourth, stranded runners on second and third in the fifth and left a runner at second in the seventh.
- With one out, Jamerson walked Madeline Domingo. Bradi Kooyman hit a grounder to Alexander to third. She threw down to second for the second out, but Kooyman reached first safely to keep the game alive. Talli Shepard popped out to shortstop to end the game.
- Jamerson tossed a completed game four-hitter for her second career shutout. She pitched 13.2 of a possible 14 innings on the day.

- "Today was a good day for us as a team. Several people did some good things for us. I'm proud of Kenedee and stepping up and keeping us in games. I'm excited to see us continue to grow."
UP NEXT
- CSUN (5-2) continues the tournament Saturday with games against CSU Bakersfield (12:15 p.m.) and Nevada (2:30 p.m.).
