CSUN Takes to The Road to Face Portland Thursday

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN concludes a three-game stretch against opponents from the West Coast Conference Thursday night when CSUN travels to the University of Portland. The action begins at 7 p.m. with streaming coverage on The WCC Network. All links will be available on GoMatadors.com.

Portland fell to 6-2 Dec. 4 when the Pilots lost 62-59 to No. 18 Oregon. Alex Fowler, who is Portland's leading scorer (14.9 ppg), recorded 16 against the Ducks. Fowler also leads the team in rebounding (7.0 rpg) and assists (47). Haylee Andrews is also averaging in double figures as she is scoring 10.6 points per game.

Thursday will be the 12th time that CSUN and Portland are playing. The Matadors lead the all-time series 6-5. CSUN has won four in a row including a 73-64 decision on Nov. 21, 2019, in the last meeting between the two clubs.

CSUN (3-4) played back-to-back overtime games Dec. 1 against Loyola Marymount and Dec. 5 against San Diego. The 62-57 overtime victory against Loyola Marymount was the fifth consecutive overtime victory for CSUN dating back to Dec. 9, 2014, when USC defeated the Matadors 85-74.

Tess Amundsen scored a game-high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting (3-of-4 from three-point range) against LMU. She added six rebounds. Sydney Woodley was 7-of-13 from the field on the way to a season-best 14 points. Woodley grabbed six rebounds made a game-high five steals. Jordyn Jackson, a redshirt junior, played a career-high 43 minutes and scored 10 points. She dished out a game-high five assists against only one turnover.

The 83-70 overtime loss to San Diego was the first overtime loss at home for CSUN since Jan. 2, 2013, when CSU Bakersfield defeated the Matadors 74-73. CSUN is 18-13 in overtime games since moving to Division I in 1990.

Anaiyah Tu'ua led CSUN with 15 points, five assists, and four steals against USD. Meghann Henderson's 14 points were a season high. Jackson posted 10 points and three assists.
