A quick 4-0 spurt to end the period would pull the Matadors to 12-10 as the quarter ended.

Portland made its first seven field goal attempts of the second half as the Pilots took a 53-32 lead into the third quarter media timeout. The Pilots were 8-for-8 before posting their first miss of the third at the 3:33 mark. A Macy Smith three-pointer early on the in the fourth quarter brought the Matadors to within 15, but that would be as close as CSUN would get.
THE NUMBERS
Portland (7-2) went 18-of-29 (62.1%) from the floor in the second half and were 32-of-66 (48.5%) for the game. The Matadors were 25-of-71 from the field on the night. The Pilots outrebounded CSUN 48-37. For the fourth time in eight games, The Matadors made 11 steals and forced 17 turnovers.
Andrews led all scorers with 22 points. Alex Fowler recorded a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Pflug also scored 16 while Lucy Cochrane added 10. Tess Amundsen led CSUN with 15 points. Michelle Duchemin charted nine. Spriggs also posted nine points and was one of three Matadors with a team-high six rebounds (along with Anaiyah Tu'ua and Meghann Henderson).
ACCORDING TO INTERIM HEAD COACH CARLENE MITCHELL
"I felt like we had a good flow early. We wanted to mix it up a little bit and we limited them to 12 points in the first quarter. We worked on our zone this week and when they knocked double a couple of threes and probably got out of the zone a little quicker. They were shooting 23% and with a 6-6 center inside, it was going to be hard for us to maintain that pace for 40 minutes. The second quarter was the difference when you look at the stat sheet. We are not the type of team that can dig ourselves a big hole and fight out of it with a small lineup. There are things we need to work on. Give them credit, they are a good team, but I felt that we were prepared and for the most part we gave ourselves a chance to be in the game."
