CSUN Hosts Hawai'i In 2021 Softball Home Opener This Weekend

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN returns home to Matador Diamond for the first time in 380 days this weekend the Matadors host the University of Hawai'i in a Big West Conference softball series.

The series begins Friday with a single game that gets underway at 3 p.m. Play concludes Saturday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader. With no fans allowed in the stands, you can follow Friday's game via an audio broadcast featuring Brandon Marcus. Saturday's doubleheader will be streamed by BigWest.tv. All links will available on GoMatadors.com.

Hawai'i is 2-4 after winning 2-of-3 Big West Conference games last weekend against UC Santa Barbara. UH opened the year by getting swept by then No. 8 Washington at home.

The Rainbow Wahine have struggled at the plate, hitting .177 as a team. Angelique Ramos is hitting .267 with one home run and four RBI. Nawai Kaupe has only two hits this season, but both are home runs. Dominique Martinez has the lowest ERA on the team at .371. Ashely Murphy and Jetta Nannen have both recorded a victory in the circle for UH. Nannen has pitched 16 of the 38 innings played this season by Hawai'i.

This is the 36th, 37th, and 38th meetings between CSUN and UH with the Rainbow Wahine leading the all-time series 18-17.

CSUN opened 2021 last weekend by going 1-2 at Cal Poly. The Matadors defeated the Mustangs 4-3 in the opener before losing 3-1 and 4-3 to Cal Poly to conclude the series.

Kenedee Jamerson, hit .429 during the opening weekend at Cal Poly. She drove in one run and recorded one double for a .571 slugging percentage. The senior lefty went 1-1 for the Matadors at Cal Poly. She pitched 10.2 of the 19 innings in which CSUN appeared on defense. Jamerson struck out three and did not walk a batter.

Mt. SAC transfer Alexis Lemus opened her CSUN career by recording an inside the park home run at Cal Poly. Lemus had a strong debut weekend, hitting .417 with a .667 slugging percentage against the Mustangs.
